Westminster Presbyterian Church

statueFounded in 1861, Westminster is a metropolitan church in every sense of the word. From our location in the heart of Grand Rapids, we attract a diverse congregation from all parts of the city. We believe that this diversity is one of our greatest strengths.

Westminster Presbyterian Church is a community of Christians committed to the common purpose of praising God, learning from God's Word, and offering a service and witness to our community and the world. We welcome you and invite you to learn more about us!

Construction at Westminster
July—December 2010

The final project of the multiyear RENEW project is to work on the narthex and the steeple.  Thanks to your extraordinary generosity, these two additional renovations take RENEW beyond even what was originally imagined.

What’s Happening?

Narthex Atrium Project:  July 26 - August 19 Return our stained glass window to its place, install new skylight in the Narthex.

Steeple Restoration Project:  Sept. 1 - Dec. 22  Repair and reroof the classic Westminster steeple.

The Plan
During the reinstallation of the narthex window, it makes sense to tie in a few additional alterations that will make the beautiful stained glass window visible from both sides, as it originally was.   But these renovations are not strictly aesthetic, particularly the steeple work.  The loose slate tiles are heavy, sharp and dangerous - definitely not people-friendly!

Our facility manager Mark Lodenstein has spent many hours negotiating with the construction team to ensure that building access is unimpeded - the single exception is our balcony, which will be closed for two Sundays in August.  And who wants to sit up there in the summer anyway? Parking may be affected, however, as equipment and supplies are staged in our lot until needed.  Please bear with us during the inconvenience and mess - good things are ahead!
